Can I apply as a student nurse to work for NHS Professionals?

I am a second year paediatric student nurse. It was mentioned to me today that I should join nhs professionals for extra experience to build up my portfolios and also because I am financially struggling at the moment. What work would I be entering into and how long does the application process take? Is it enjoyable and will I be working in other wards other than children's?
