Why is this guy so mean all of a sudden?

Okay so this guy and I we've been enemies for a while, but more like playful enemies like really friends but yeah; you know? And then all of the sudden today he turned into like a serious ******, all because he found out we're both getting confirmed at the same church (lutherans church). And I missed the first like group thing, so when he asked me if I were getting confirmed at the church he is and I said yeah he started sending out texts to everyone he'd met at church that I'm a and spazzy, and then he managed to get a picture of me where I look horrible and he sent it to them all. Why is he being so mean? I seriously didn't even do anything, and what do you think I should do. I don't want to get confirmed if everyone hates me because of him, but that's his intentions he wants me to leave the church. Right now I'm not speaking to him, and that's my plan to just not ociate with him because he's a jerk right now.
