How to obtain Enbrance certificate of a property in Bangalore?

I want to obtain an enbrance certificate of a property in Bangalore, which i think belonged to my father jointly held along with his 1st wife during the 70's. I am my fathers second marriage son. I was told by my father that I do have a stake in that property when he was alive, but now there is now way to prove it. I approached the sub registrar office of the area and saw only the name of the 1st wife, and was told that the history of the ownership would be in other books prior to that entry.I even tried bribing them to get the information but they did not seemed interested. I want to know if that property was jointly held earlier than i could go ahead with legal proceedings. I was also told that my fathers 1 in-laws threaten him and got him to sigh doents because of which he divorced and remarried. Now that my father is no more i could take up the case. Please advise on the same.
